I don't understand people who insist that playing video games is a waste of time.

EVERYTHING is a waste of time. Life, in of itself, is a waste of time. Everything you do in life is just wasting time towards dying. How is one activity, such as going outside and playing soccer, any more significant than playing a video game?

Thank you Amy for those words, i completely agree with you.
I myself didn't buy the game (don't have the system) but i have a sibling who owns it and i just play it with him then.
Its a great game.
and for you people who say that "oh bad game"
Well...hasn't this stuff been out for years?
How about the song low? Yeah...we all know what they mean...why not blackmail that song if there trying that hard to get GTA out?
If you want to ban you kid from GTA, do it then, just don't put the game down for us people who enjoy it.
Everyones entitled to your own opinon, but if you want to take this game off then you have to take in the logic of everything else that is going on in the world that is bad
What about celberties, songs and even pictures...im not saying that stuff is a thumbs up but, think about everything else and not the vitural game.

(oh and congrats to the makers of GTA, 500 million is alot)

To all of those people who worry about kids playing games like GTA 4, isn't there bigger things to worry about like wars where real people die not just people made up and animated.

Brava Amy!! Our generation has always been told that everything we do is because we saw it in a game or on TV. I think that all the critics that say that are just looking for ways to help the people who become murders and rapists have a defence when they go to court. They need to get over themselves and play a game themselves. They might have more fun and those people who do commit those crimes might stay were they belong instead of finding themselves an excuse to get out..........

I agree, Amy deserves a round of applause. Too many gamers and supporters don't have the sense to explain their argument precisely. People like Amy and others in this forum should be able to help non-gamers realize its just entertainment. When it comes down to it their are more important social issues to worry about if your an adult. Global warming, health care, the educational and judicial systems just off the top of my head. Whether its music, movies, books, or games their are always people who want to censor it. These people need to re-examine their priorities.

I have worked in electronics/videogames for 5 years, and a couple things I have noticed in that time...
Yes, there has been a increase in the amount of kids TRYING to buy the game... or having older friends try to buy it, but as is our store policy, M ratings require ID. I point this out to parents and grandparents as well, and about 80 percent of the time, the game dosen't get sold. A lot of parents don't even know about the rating system. I say rated M, and they say 'What's that mean?'. I feel like it is my responsibility to inform parents what it means, and a lot are only picking up a title the kids have asked for. They know nothing about the games their kids are playing. A lot of kids try to tell parents that it isn't as bad as I make it sound, so I point to the description at the back of the game. Usually the parents seem a little upset and still don't buy it.
Something that has changed is the amout of parents that do let their kids pick what they want to play. When I point out the rating, the answer from them is "oh, I know, we play together so he's not hiding it at a friends house... that way I know what he's doing."
I can't say I'm for or against violent videogames. I think that they are like any other game. Even Mario can turn a kid into a mindless controller junkie. Maybe we should focus less on whats in the video game (until the news, media, and movie violence can be better controlled) and more on How Much time is spent in general in front of the tv/console.
