Stupid article. Waste of space. I don't know from where came the idea that all capitals mean you are yelling. I think most people have no idea that some people believe that all capitals mean you are yelling. Back in the TTY days and early modern computer days, not that long ago, it was all capitals. With typewriters, you didn't have bold, italics, and all that fancy stuff, so using all capitals could have been a way to emphasis something. Quotations marks, and underscoring have their own special purposes. So who decided that all caps means yelling? If you want to express some action or emotion, you should spell it out, not rely on someone's typing skills. That's what effective communication is all about. So how do you typographically represent other actions and emotions? Say whispering, singing, crying, laughing, etc. Oh, no! The letter is in all italics; that means you are being laughed at. Oh, my gosh, he is using a script font; that means he is singing. Give it a break. All capitals means the person was typing in all capitals and nothing else.

For those of you who like upper case for the size factor, there is actually a setting on your computer that you can use in order to increase the size of the font. If you use Windows XP, right click on your desktop and go to Properties (last option in the list that comes up), then select display properties (i.e. the option that allows you to change monitor settings), select advanced options and change the font size from 96 DPI to 120 DPI. In Windows Vista, right click on the desktop and select Personalize, then Adjust Font Size (DPI) (left side under the Task menu). You can then adjust the font size similarily.

This should help so that you don't have to use CAPS lock (which is difficult for the vast majority of us to read).

Secretary: I guess I'm not as good a secretary as you, except it's funny how well I can do dicta with my eyes closed and not make any mistakes. All that 'coursework' just for some recreation??

Marg: The newspaper doesn't scream at you either, the writer does and if you disagree then why are you using quotation marks?? Plus, I'm sorry, 'whom' should review how they treat others? Perhaps you should read your post before posting it.....

Amen to Fallon....
Necrodeemus....lol....thanks for the laugh I needed it today....you're awesome!

This is very interesting; I have never had a problem when someone emails me in all capital letters, but the girl who replaced me while I was on vacation ended up quitting because one employee kept emailing her in capital letters.

Her exact words "She wouldn't stop yelling at me in capital letters, it's rude!"

Well, she probably had the caps lock on and we all could have avoided this mess.

newfieswoman, I believe that the caps lock is the least of your problems when composing emails. May I suggest a lesson in english?
