@Dave:
play the game before you judge it. first off, it's picky to judge something based on the spelling of the protagonist's name. Second off, it's not the ship based components that are the strategic elements. The game uses a squad-based combat system, requiring you to customize the armour, weapons, ammo, and abilities of each of your team members, choosing which team members to include, as well the behaviors of each teammate. There is a significant amount of strategy involved in this title, and don't judge it until you've played it, otherwise you may be labelled and expert by Fox News.

Dear Mr. Saltzman,

     I love games, but I have to wonder if its healthy to pit oneself against the relentless electronic totalitarian demands these games place on the participants. They seem dehumanizing and may well lead to a peculiar kind of insanity. Oh well....
I don't know if I have ever seen "Shepard" spelt{sp?} with one "p". But I find it a little odd that single ship operations are considered "strategic".

I think all video games are bullsh*t these days and there are to many rules by the people who it got to pass by, to go out in the market. Then the video games not going to have the potential it could have and people are going to get bored of it easyily. I guess again it's just a next industry all about the sales and not the customer.
How? Howcome the industry or who ever controls the major industrys dont let someone better at it but not from their corporation make a video game.
I feel the same way about the government
