From the folks who launched the ill-fated Dose magazine comes a new start-up, GigPark, that combines social networking and online reviews of popular services you might need — from real estate agents and accountants to naturopaths and hair stylists to gynaecologists and psychiatrists.
The founders, Noah Godfrey and Pema Hegan, came up with the concept when looking for an employment lawyer to review their termination package after Dose’s doors closed.
Available for free, GigPark lets its members easily find services through recommendations from friends, or friends of friends. According to a recent report from Bridge Ratings and the University of Massachusetts we’re more likely to trust friends and peer reviews over traditional information sources, such as advertising.
"We believe that friends recommend the best people," says Hegan, cofounder of GigPark. "When people are looking for a service, like a handyman or wedding photographer, they look to their friends for a recommendation first."
The site also offer a Facebook application, also available for free from GigPark.com.
