According to a recent announcement from SquareTrade, a leading online warranty company, the iconic Motorola Razr V3 is more likely to break than any other mobile phone.
According to company records, the popular Razr has an 18 percent failure rate within a two year period of normal use, which is much higher than the failure rate of other cell phones on the market.
By comparison, SquareTrade says the Motorola SLVR L6 is far more reliable with only a 10 percent failure rate in the same time period. LG’s F9100 phone came in at 11 percent and the Motorola SLVR L7 at 12 percent, which was tied with Research In Motion’s popular BlackBerry smartphones.
SquareTrade says its online warranties are typically 40 percent less than those sold by many retailers, such as Best Buy, plus the company guarantees repair or cash reimbursement within five days.

This is sooooooo TRUE. The Razr is the best cell phone I have ever owned, but it is a bad physical design. I have had two RazRs and both have died from some sort of minor 'damage' apparently. I have had a dozen or more cell phones brands in my life and most of them I still have in working condition! Motorola is a brand name that usually build equipment to 'military' standards but apparently they bypassed that testing cycle for the Razr. It will come back to haunt them as I immediatley look away when I see Motorola cell phones now.

The worst cell phones I ever had were both Audiovox. I had two Audiovox phones and both started having issues after about 6 months of use out of the blue. Signal quality, call quality, and battery life took a real nosedive. My fiance and his mom both had razrs and they worked great for them and they havent had any problem with theirs (and my fiance's mom has had hers since they first came out). My fiance and his mom bought the new rzr 2 cuz they wanted one not cuz their razrs were broken.
I wonder how many of these problems were due to owners not taking care of their phones. Also, the Razr is such a popular phone that there's simply more of them out there and more people are using them and the people that have them (generally younger people) are more likely to abuse them than something like a blackberry.
I have a Krzr and I love it… so much better than my old phones. The one old audiovox phone i had i know of so many people who had problems with it… pretty much everyone i talked to who had the phone was having battery issues (the 8450). Then I got the 8930 and it was good for the first little bit then the battery life started going down, down, down even though i hardly used my phone for calls. Signal quality degraded to the point where at home i was lucky to get 2-3 bars of 1x (digital coverage) and no analouge whereas I get full (5 bars) of evdo (high speed network) with my krzr. I'm in a city and i hardly got service anywhere with it. Also, on both phones the auto-roaming feature worked very poorly or not at all.
I have heard really bad things about the lg chocolate up here. not about the razr (and if there were problems it was usually just a battery issue).

The best phone I ever used were the classic Panasonic Phones, They were rugged, heavy, and the size of a brick. Talk about style, It lets everybody around you notice your showpiece.

My work gave me a razor and as with most other Motorola phones, I am very happy with it. My job can be very physical at times and since I bought the appropriate case for it, I have had no problems with it whatsoever, but I'm still waiting for them to come out with a "Start Trek – Next Gen." type of phone that clips to your shirt and does everything but the talking for you… ;P (jk)
Long Live Motorola!

I'm on my second Razr. I've been using cell phones since '91. I average 30 calls per day and the phone must be on 24 hrs a day. I find I have to replace phones every 6 months or so. I have had so many phones. I was really surpised the Razr I just retired lasted just over a year, dropped it about 10 times soaked it till it wouldn't work for a week, broke the glass on the front 5 times, but it kept on providing great reception and overall operation.

I've gone through many cellphones but by far, the Razr v3i is the best. I've gone through Nokias, Sanyos, SE, and samsungs – none of which have impressed me. I've had two v3 Razrs and the first which I got almost 3 years ago now belongs to my boyfriend and is in great working order despite the abuse it took from me. It's dented and cracked but still works great.
I got the Pink V3 about a year afterwards as a gift and it failed last April when the screen blanked out. Mind you, this phone has also had it's fair share of falls. I got the LG Chocolate in May and it was useless by September plus had major issues with reception and dropped calls like nothing else I ever had.
So in September, I got myself the phone that wowed me the first time I saw it: the V3i. It has only fallen a couple of times (yes, I'm a major clutz) but despite falling on rough concrete and ceramic tiles, not even the battery cover came off. There's only one small dent in it. Furthermore, it eliminates the issue that I was having with the V3 which was the incredibly annoying background noise I would always get. The reception on the V3i is just perfect, the sound quality is amazing and it's just the best phone I have ever had.

I think the Razer is the most repaired phone because it is the most frequently thrown to the ground in a "why don't you work properly?!" sort of way. The side button settings shift everytime the phone is removed from the holster. Yeah I know you can lock it but that is a pain. The voice recognition is also terrible.

I got a RAZR V3 for christmas and it's awesome. It has the best reception ever. I love the design and I know I haven't had it very long, but I am very impressed. Of course nothing is going to last very long if you mistreat it. I love it, and I know other people who have Motorollas and they rock.

I deal with a lot of cell phones and the Razr has been a phones are one of the most common phone I send in followed by the Krzr. Many of the problems have to do with loss of screen due to the cable breaking in the hinge, as well as the phone not detecting the position of the screen properly. The Motorola 815 phones are sent in all the time for connector issue on the bottom of the phone failing.
The Krzr reboots while text messaging on top of the problems with RAZR, but the phones still out preform Samsung and Audiovox for signal. As for miss treating the phone, generally those that have the motorola products are less scratched, and in better condition so I have to dissagree with that. I have even had to send Motorola phones back DOA right off the shelf, not even in service yet.

Hmmm a Motorala phone that has an 18% chance of breaking, BUT has the best reception of any phone I've owned, best sound quality AND a great set of features–VS my previous LG phone that constantly dropped calls, never had full digital reception, would go into a "power saving" mode whenever it totally lost signal, which was often, and then wouldn't come out of that mode again until manually reset resulting in many missed calls. I'll take my chances with my Razor thanks…

They break easily do they? Quit throwing your expensive electronics on concrete, ceramic tile, etc and maybe stop drenching them in all types of liquids and you'll find they work exactly as intended for a much longer period of time. What this article should state is that the RAZR may be more fragile than some other model phones. To state that it "fails" more often in a two year period is misleading. I've had mine for over a year and it works as well today as the day I bought it.

I liked my well enough, but it stopped working a month after the warranty. I always take good care of my electronics and this phone certainly didn't take any abuse from me; further, I probably averaged one phone call day during it's brief life. So, I'm done with Rzars for good; bought an unlocked Nokia for $48 and it's indestructable.

Early last year my unprotected Razr fell out of my hands as I was locking the door to my house. It fell two stories as it bounced off of and down two flights of stairs while spinning on it's edge. It landed on the pavement and slid under a vehicle on a hot sunny day. My friend had to reverse the vehicle so I could retrieve it. I found it in perfect condition WITHOUT any damage what so ever. Other than the keypad display light reciently burning out, I've had no trouble with it at all.

I've got a Razor and it works fine, i on the other hand do not. I'm getting rid of the phone and the car and the house and the other car and everything in the house and I'm moving someplace high and mountainous where cells don't work and neither will i. See ya!

I had razrs since they first came out, my gf ran over the first one, I now own a razr vt3 , love it. i think they are the best looking phones.

Any phone that has a 18% failure rate souldn't be sold. Motorola's are naturally prone to failure and I think is the worst cell manufacturer next to LG. Nokia and Samsung phones are by far the best in market, having best reliability, durability, and reception.
