iDump a handy (and free) iPod companion

In order to curb piracy, Apple doesn’t let iPod owners copy music stored on your digital device to another computer. You can only copy music from your PC to your iPod, via the iTunes software. Some music lovers, however, have found a way around this by downloading software that doesn’t enforce these restrictions.

One of the newest solutions is completely free to use. Called iDump, this Windows-based spreadsheet-like program lets you copy your music collection from your iPod to a PC.

You must first drag and drop teeny (667K) .exe file in the root directory on your iPod and run the program when connected to a PC. Now you can access all of your songs, search keywords and pick a destination directory on your PC.

Sound good? Please use responsibly!

So.. it's now Apple's job to police the internet. I'm sorry if I want to take my music collection with me to work and put it on my computer there.

I am glad that someone has found a work around for this; but personally I will never spend my money on an Apple product.

I don't like it either, but I can understand Apple appeasing the record labels as this is a measure to help reduce piracy. If you could easily copy the 5,000+ songs on your iPod to a friend's computer, everyone would be doing it (let's face it!). If used responsibly, like making a backup of your music collection on both your desktop and laptop, I like software like iDump (in the past I've tried CopyPod).

    Best,

    Marc

You can use Anapod explorer to do the same thing & more.
I've never used iTunes with my iPod & refuse to do so.

I never bought an iPod and I don't understand the big deal behind them. I bought a regular MP3 player and you know I can go back and forth between it and any computer.
