How much should you spend for a 1GB MP3 player?

Marc: I want to buy an MP3 player as a “stocking stuffer” but don’t want to spend $79 on an iPod Shuffle. Any suggestions?

Yes! You can buy a 1 gigabyte MP3 player for under $20. No, it’s not an Apple product but you’ll find they not only store as many songs as the iPod Shuffle – about 250 or so – but it’ll play more music formats and include features such as a voice recorder and an LCD screen so you can see the name of the song.

For example, Canadian Tire is selling a black 1GB Nextar MP3 player for $19.76 while Toys R Us has a pink model for $24.99.

TigerDirect.ca has a deal on Mach Speed 1GB MP3 Player for $14.99 after rebate.

Happy holidays!

Writing is too small to read so you do not know what area you are in.

15 bucks. Where is the quality in a player that came out of a factory for about a buck?

  • Dan says:

I'd say no more than $10 because like Eric says…it prob cost a buck to make, package and ship. All electronic's are way over priced to start with.

got to replace my walkman, what do I do if I buy an Ipod (as advertised) what's an MP3 player? checked some websites, don't get a straight answer!

Didn't want to spend alot of money for a mp3 player just in case so after checking out a few I bought a mp3 player a couple of weeks ago at Walmart for $29.95 its 1 gb and holds 500 songs. Came with earphones and usb cord to transfer songs from computer also case and velcro strap to attach to arm or were ever.
Was pleasantly surprised how good the sound was played through my computer speakers. Compared sound with friends expensive ipod and it sounded every bit as good.
Screen is a bit small and so are controls but hey! what do you expect fot 30 bucks. All in all am quite pleased with it.
At same time also bought a wireless fm adapter that plugs into car cigerette lighter for $19.95 so I can use the mp3 player in my car.
Also worked great only drawback is mp3 player still runs on batteries even while plugged into car which I found kind of disappointing but for what I paid for the whole thing am quite happy with it.
