An Apple a day for Fox to play?

An extra surprise might be hidden inside the millions of video-enabled iPods received over the holidays: access to the latest Fox movies via the iTunes Store.

AppleAn extra surprise might be hidden inside the millions of video-enabled iPods received over the holidays: access to the latest Fox movies via the iTunes Store.

If the rumours are true, Apple Inc and Twentieth Century Fox are about to announce a deal, allowing consumers to digitally rent flicks through iTunes. The movies would be playable on a personal computer, portable iPod or Apple TV-connected television for a limited time.

Both the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal are reporting this joint venture between Apple Inc and News Corp’s Fox.

Even if this rumour is true, Canadians still cannot download full length movies from iTunes, though as of last month Canucks can download select TV shows and sports programming.

In related news, shares of Apple Inc. hit the US $200 mark for the first time Wednesday, rising from US $1.17 during afternoon trading. Over the past year, Apple shares have traded between US $76.77 and US $199.33.
