one part of me remembers a time when i didn't have so much visual garbage surrounding me. useless info i don't ask for or need. and on a constant basis. no wonder we, having become a consumer collective, can't pull our heads out of our arses long enuff to notice the world falling apart. don't blame the corps, blame our acceptance of the growing forms of consumer brainwashing. another part of me, wonders if resistance is truly futile anyway. i'm just one of many who buy things, knowing i will buy again.and again. and ads in my face are like leaves in a tree. whatever, right? just let it continue, because reversing the focus of society won't get me a better blackberry...

BFD, advertising is a fact of life you can ignore it. Besides Facebook and Myspace are FREE sites. How do you think they will provide the service it's not like their employees, and suppliers are going to work for free. Perhaps the people complaining would like to start there own site, build it to this size and convince several thousand friends and family to work for FREE and then try and find a service provider who will donate ton's of space for FREE. Get real, if you expect a service for Free you have to expect the costs to come from somewhere. If you want to limit your exposure remove all the stupid apps that share info, and take your personal info out of the system leaving a bare bones site.

Well, well, well...I didn't have the stomach to read half of what you are all yacking about on this facebook idea.
I read the opening blurb about the whole comparison regarding facebook vs. Nazi Germany in 1941 and laughed. Whoever wrote that should go out in the real world and learn some common sense. Facebook is free...if you don't like it, then don't use it. Quit bitching about it. You, as a human being, are free to make choices. The choice of which pants to buy, which movie to see, what food to buy, and so on. So if you choose to download an application, you've made a choice. If you choose to ignore or decline the invitation, you have again made a choice. The simplicity is still there and it will always be there for people who want it. For people who like "decorating" their facebook homepage, the choice is there. Of everything that's going on in the world today, don't you think you'd have something else to complain about other than the creator of a certain product is making money on it? Why is anything ever created in the first place. Money. We all need or want more money to make our lives more comfortable. Just because someone got off their lazy ass and put their brain to work and invented something to make money, don't bitch about it. The way I see it is, if you're bitching about it then don't use it...and one other thing, if you create something of use to other people and someone comes to you and offers you a boatload of money to buy into the idea, tell them to screw off and you don't need it.
Oops, that's what I thought, you wouldn't. If you won the lottery tomorrow, would you tell them to keep that money?
Grow up people, enjoy life, stop wasting your time...I feel bad enough for wasting my time writing this.

Why does anyone want to make their lives a public expose? I suppose it's the realization of what Andy Warhol said, "In the future everybody will be famous for fifteen minutes." Except now, people want to turn their lives into a cabaret right away, without wait, the instant fix.

The Internet is just the new TV. You get stuff for free, you get hit with ads. It's just that now, the means of targeting a market are much more sophisticated, and its members are much more willing to let them collect what they want.

Just a notion: Talking to an actual face, a real person, is free. There are no ads, no invasion of privacy, no data mining. The experience is real and personable. Why facebook at all? Life is not TV, a movie, a web site, or a video game Keep it real.

P.S. What ever happened to spelling, punctuation and grammar on the internet?

All i see here is people complaining about the advertising on Facebook and tv. Well ya know what... there's advertising everwhere, not just on those 2 things. You can see advertising just walking down the street on those billboards, bus stops, etc. and what are flyers?... they're advertising for stores, and there's ads in paper. So you can't just complain about Facebook, advertising's everywhere, get over it. and just using the phone and msn is hard sometimes, you know people don't always have the same scheduals. Plus I've found people that I used to be friends with but have just kinda lost contact with over the years. It's great to see how they're doing and everthing. It would've been kinda hard to just call them up or talk to them on msn...

I think ppl will be deterred from it once they are constantly bombarded with ads.

I just use it to keep in touch with friends and family that I don't see very often etc. Its great in that sense. Especially when they live outta town.

For the person who said to use messenger or the phone: I don't talk to 200 some ppl that often, but its just nice to see what everyone's up to.
