SyncFord recently announced plans to reinvent how consumers will use portable media players and mobile phones in their vehicles. Powered by Microsoft software, this exclusive technology is called "Sync," so naturally the writers of this blog were drawn to its name!

Some of the highlights of the system include:

* Users can access their connected digital music player – including genre, album, artist and song title – via voice commands. Therefore you can say "Play Timbaland" or "Find similar music" and your car will respond accordingly.

• Sync will locate your Bluetooth phone, anywhere in the vehicle, and answer a call with either the touch of a button or simple voice command.

• Urgent text message from one of the kids? Sync will convert text messages from your phone to audio and read it aloud – including translation of commonly used text message expressions as "LOL."

• Sync can host nearly any digital media player, including the Apple iPod and all MP3 players with "Plays for Sure" technology and most USB storage devices.

• Need to make dinner reservations or book a round of golf? Simply touch the "push to talk" button, then say the name of the restaurant or golf course, and Sync will automatically connect you with the number listed in your mobile phone’s contact list.

The 2008 Ford Focus is the first Ford vehicle to receive this industry-first Sync technology.

Not only does the 2008 Focus have Sync system so does the 2008 Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX. What a great system and what a very cool pair of CUV's.

I envision more products having voice command functions, and been able to interact with other products and people.

it looks like we are starting to catch up with star trek!

I de-activated my Facebook account some time ago because it seemed to serve o purpose other than wasting my time with frivolous messages, useless application requests and ridiculous wall postings. The last thing I would be interested in is "Corporate Friends".

  • Peter says:

I applaud Ford for stepping up and putting some of this new technology in vehicles. To bring unit costs down why not make it standard in every 2008 vehicle and make an impression on the entire 16 – 45 year old demographic. Ford could use this marketing impact right now.

Ford has forgotten the younger generation when it come to vehicle design and the styling seems to forcus on people over 65 years old and i hope it will change one day when it will cater to a younger crowd and for now it is being forcus by the german and japanese company.

Yeah. Now we can repeatedly re-boot our locked-up car audio systems just like we've continually had to do with home, office, laptop, hand-held and cell-phones that use Microsoft operating systems. Please, don't put such a system in one of my vehicles.

  • Peter Nadorvolgyi says:

    Oh Goody!!!

The last thing I need and anything running on "Micro$soft" in my car!

Just keep it FAR away from the engine management and any safety devices.

  • Steven says:

Yay, MS in my car now guess what:

    1. twice a day the car will crash for no reason

    2. Now and then the car will lock up, and the only way to fix it wuld be to close all windows, shut down the vehicle and restart.

  • Microsoft Haters says:

WOW people that hate Microsoft are really sad. I am not saying they don't have faults, and are certainly not perfect. But they imploy a great deal of Americans and its a US company. When will people wake up and figure out that without companies that spend billions in the USA deserve your support. This is a great inovation and I hope that Microsoft and others continue to invest.

for all the complainers: Sync controls nothing! It inhances what you have: bluetooth phone capabilities, Ipod or music on a memory stick. How many complainers really know what it is or does. What it DOESN'T do is control any part of the vehicles systems, to have it only costs you $395 when you buy the car! No other fees, monthly or otherwise! Sounds like a steel by Ford and a bunch of "sour grapes" by owners of other vehicles that don't have it and weren't willing to step up and inovate something rather than hold on to the coat tails of an AMERICAN CO. (If Toyota came up with it I guess it would be called GREAT but Ford…) I'm sure once you see it work, and it does, you'll find something wrong (like why can't it find me a girl friend) instead of admitting it's a "first step" in new technology (the first airplanes crashed a lot) that is quite something. What does your Toyota do for you? What inovations does your Honda have? It took them 20 years after the AMERICAN Co. (big 3) to finally decide we wanted A/C in cars that worked. Stop complaining about everything just to hear yourself, speak of facts (after researching and not just believing what you want to BELIEVE as fact) and don't think that your opinion is the ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS. If you don't know something you don't have to get on a blog and act like you do, those that actually KNOW about the subject think your an idiot.
