Olympus 790 SW is one tough camera
I’ve been playing around with the Olympus Stylus 790 SW, a compact 7.1-Megapixel and 3x zoom digital camera that’s perfect for the Great Outdoors as it’s waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof and crushproof.

It can take pictures underwater as deep as 10 feet (approximately 3 meters), so it’s perfect for your winter vacation or for fun at the cottage next summer.
Live in Nunavut? No worries. This new successor to the Olympus 770 SW can withstand temperatures as low as -4 Fahrenheit.
Available in one of five colours, other features of this $349 Olympus Stylus 790 SW include in-camera editing, 27 shooting modes, a 2.5-inch colour LCD screen, image stabilization, face detection and multiple speed options (up to ISO 1600).

This sounds good to me… As someone who enjoys the outdoors (sailing, MTBiking, canoe triping) I've been leary of picking up a digital camera.
It'd be nice if the "reviewer" provided more than the marketing info from Olympus, though. I've had other weather proof devices (a camera and a watch)fail on me when we dumped a canoe in fast-moving water.
The only feature that seems critical to me when taking pictures of scenery in bright light, is a viewfinder.
Yet nary a mention…
I understand that the manufacturer only wants to talk about the 2.5" (power sucking) screen, but why not a review that points out what's sadly missing in what otherwise may be worthy of praise… hmmm..?
I was impressed with this camera; at the Henry's Digital Imaging Show in Toronto. This camera was used as a Blinko chip which bounced off padded pins and dropped into 6" of water at the bottom. At the end of the day; the camera was dented, wet and working.
