Best of E3, Part 3: Wii Fit

Wii_fitWhile not for hardcore gamers, Nintendo wowed the crowds here at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo with a demonstration of the upcoming Wii Fit software.

When used with the Wii Balance Board, which looks like a wireless scale you step on, Nintendo Wii owners can exercise, stretch and do yoga with on-screen avatars – all designed to help keep you fit, feel good and lose weight. For example, you may be asked to step on and off the board at certain times with music or keep one foot on the board while lifting another up towards your waist or shift your weight on the board to help a red needle measure up with a blue bar.

Fun games are also included, such as one where you play a soccer goalie and must lean left or right to head-butt soccer balls but avoid cleats and other objects. Another game has you roll marbles around so that they fall into a hole in the floor – without falling off the edge.

Continuing its commitment to casual players – and other often-neglected groups such as women and the elderly – Wii Fit looks to be a very interesting product, due out sometime before the holidays.

umm, i thought the whole point of video games was to let you sit on your butt, and not do anything. A video game to keep you fit? what is the world coming to?

I think it is terrific for the Wii to come out with a video game to keep u fit. I am an elderly lady and love to walk on the treadmill but I also own the Wii and can't wait for the video and also to try to get my husband to work out with me. That would be great for him.

Very good concept for Nintendo. The market share for hardcore gamers seems pretty tight so it's a good idea for them to walk into a foreign area of the market. I think it'll work out well for them. I will be very interested in how sophisticated this physical attachment to gaming will get.

I think this will cut down obsedy

^ Maybe next they'll come out with a video game for illiteracy?

  • C.J. says:

    Haha, well said there Jim.

Anyway, I really do think the Wii Fit is a great idea. It promotes staying active while at the same time, having fun. I mean hey, gaming AND exercising simultaneously must have been every gamers dream at one point or another.

Excersise with wii , sounds like a good plan , would be heathier for the kids as well.

I think this is a great idea, as alot of kids seem to spend more and more time indoors… another similar concept is ddr (dance dance revolution), where the player dances to the steps shown on a dance board. I can't wait for this game to come.
