Imitation iPods aplenty in China
How much does a phony iPod cost? Less than $30 Canadian, if you’re in China. Here’s what I found while in Shanghai.

If my experience in Shanghai last week is any indication, it’s virtually impossible to walk five feet without someone approaching you saying “Watch, bags, DVD?” – all of whom are quite eager to take you down a winding labyrinth of alleyways and secret doors to get the fake Prada purses, Rolex wristwatches and the complete 10 seasons of Friends in a box set.
Hmm, perhaps it was my chalky white (read: tourist) skin or hulking camera around my neck that led them to believe I was interested in this stuff – but what I did find fascinating were the rows of phony iPods.
Yep, they had the word iPod etched on the device (and a few with “ePod”) and also the familiar Apple logo graced the welcome screen.
The price? A colleague of mine who haggled for a 8GB pink iPod nano walked away with one for 200 Yuan – or about $28 Canadian dollars. For all we knew, they took her for a ride.

I've seen phony iPods before, and the only thing close to authentic about these was their look… if your 8GB knockoff works like the genuine article (even if it's not spelled the same), then I'd say $28 is a great deal.
