I recently stumbled upon an amazing – and completely free – service for mobile phone users in Canada and the U.S.
Called Jott, it lets you send an email or text message from any cell phone – simply by using your voice. The speech-to-text translation converts your voice into text and sends the message to the recipient, such as “Honey, don’t forget to pick up milk today.” Alternatively, you can choose to keep the voice message as-is, instead of converting it to text.
Jott, which is currently in public beta, works as follows. Sign up online for a free account and import your address book (or manually type in people you want to contact using this service). Then, when out and about, call the toll-free Jott number from your cell phone and say the person’s name you want to “jot” a message to – it can also be a note to yourself, by the way (by simply saying “Me,” when prompted). After you say your message you can email/MMS the audio clip by pressing a number on your phone or do nothing to convert it to text. Within five minutes or so it will show up both at the recipient’s email inbox and mobile phone.
Cool, huh?
Has anyone else tried it? Feel free to post your comments if you have.
Otherwise, visit www.jott.com to test it out for yourself.
